INFINITT Digital Pathology Solution stores and standardizes slide images from various scanners, making it much easier for pathologists to access or share the images. 


Let’s take a closer look at how INFINITT Digital Pathology Solution works and how it can be incorporated into the pathology workflow.

 


 

Slide image standardization

 

Scanners that convert slides into digital images have different ways of storing and transferring images, depending on the vendors. So slide images scanned from scanner A can only be accessed with a viewer that is compatible with scanner A. 


On the other hand, INFINITT Digital Pathology Solution stores digital slide images in both original and DICOM files. DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) is a globally acknowledged standard in medical imaging that enables medical images to be transmitted and shared seamlessly across a wide variety of medical devices and information systems. What this means is that INFINITT Digital Pathology Solution takes digital slide images scanned in different formats and unifies them under the standard DICOM format. As a result, pathologists can easily access slide images even if they’re scanned from different scanners.


Standardization also makes it easier to share images. As mentioned in the previous article, pathologists often send slide images to external facilities for second opinions, joint research or treatment. INFINITT Digital Pathology Solution enables seamless image sharing between facilities using different scanners because all slide images are sent as standard DICOM files.

 

 

EHR/APLIS interface

 

Pathology departments use a number of information systems including EHR and APLIS. The electronic health record (EHR) manages information related to patients, disease types, treatment history, etc. while the anatomic pathology laboratory information system (APLIS) manages information related to exams, specimens, devices, etc.
